The second edition of this book presents veterinary professionals with practical solutions to specific situations they may encounter due to new tendencies influencing the sector. The author gives clear, straightforward, and yet dynamic explanations of topics such as market research, how to form a team and retain staff, business plans and protocols, or how to control expenditure. The book has also been updated with the know-how required to get the most out of the new technologies and digital tools now available to veterinary practices (social media, digital marketing, etc.). The book aims to introduce veterinary professionals who own a practice to the management skills that can empower them to become cutting-edge veterinary entrepreneurs..

Ignacio Mérida Isla

Ignacio earned his degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Zaragoza in 2000.

He then spent the next 12 months researching fertility in dairy cattle at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Utrecht (Holland).

In 2002, he moved to the United Kingdom where he first worked as a small animal emergency vet for 3 years, and subsequently in various small animal veterinary practices across the country.

Ignacio returned to Spain in 2007 and established his consulting firm, Assis VBA, which aims to provide professional and independent advice on all aspects of veterinary practice management (for example, how to increase the client base, efficient and ethical marketing, and how to retain good employees).

He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Management in 2009 from Villanueva CES, an affiliate of the Complutense University of Madrid.

In 2015, Ignacio completed the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) at the University of Liverpool.

He is a regular contributor to the Spanish magazine for small animal vets Argos in various areas of marketing, management, and human resources, besides also training veterinary surgeons and assistants in both Spain and the United Kingdom. In addition, he writes the blog Diario de un Veterinario Gestor (Diary of a Veterinary Manager), which has been transformed into a book, and is the public face of the veterinary management blog on his own YouTube channel: Nacho Mérida Isla.

Ignacio has published numerous articles in Spain and Europe and frequently gives presentations on different veterinary topics at events across Spain and South America. He is also a participant on the management programme and podcast La Taberna del Tío Hilario.
